Our Old Home in Melville NY (Still looks great 10 months after leaving her)
Rollingwood
was developed in the early 1950's. Many of the homes have been
expanded and there are not many originals remaining. There are
very few street lights in the neighborhood, our choice, which makes the
stars at night that much brighter. The community has a cozy charm
with many trees older than the homes themselves. A short walk away
are many homes dating back to the 17th and 18th century most having some
connection to Walt Whitman. There are not many communities like
this on LI that are close to everything (literally walking distance) but
feel as if you are in the country.
We think we have created a unique expansion to the original home design. A large part of the oak trim you see in the house came from a magnificent old White Oak that stood in the front lawn but was dying.
West Hills Park is rather a well kept secret to all but the Horse world. The highest point on LI is a mile from our house in the park, it connects to the Nassau Suffolk Greenbelt trail that runs from Cold Spring Harbor to the Great South Bay. Once in the Park you are lost to the noise and congestion of suburban LI and it is easy to imagine you are a long way from one of the largest cities in the world
